Keeping your child safe is the most important thing to you. Learn about the three basic types of personal alarm for your child.

As a parent, the number one thing on your mind is the safety of your child. Unfortunately, you don't have eyes in the back of your head, so there are a number of different options available to help keep your child safe.

Child Locator Alarms

The child locator alarm uses the 'Mommy I'm Here' transmitter and receiver technology to allow you to locate your child if he or she is out of sight.

The noise-making receiver is attached to the child, whilst you keep the transmitter. If you notice your child is out of sight, you press the 'alarm' button on the transmitter and the receiver attached to the child will make a loud 'chirping' style noise. This warning sound not only alerts you to where your child is, but also alerts others surrounding the child that he/she is missing.

Most child locator alarms function within a 150 feet range and are waterproof. Prices can range from $10 - $250.

Pool Safety Alarms

A small child falling into a pool is a very dangerous situation. Installing a pool safety alarm will aid in avoiding a potentially deadly scenario this coming summer.

Pool safety alarms use varying kinds of technology ranging from simple band immersion to motion detection and wave activity detection. Popular pool safety alarms incorporate a base station and wristbands which are attached to the child. If the wrist band is immersed in water, then the base station noises an alarm.

Most are able to be installed in the home by the owner and range in price from $75 right up to $600.

Car Safety Alarms

There are hundreds of cases each year involving children being accidentally run over. Many of these cases involve a parent accidentally backing over their child at home in the driveway. The height of many cars and trucks make it difficult to determine if a child is in the way.

Car safety alarms can alert you to a child close by, or they can let you know if you have left your child in your car.

Most of these alarms work on sensor motion detection technology, with some systems alerting the driver with an alarm. Other systems allow you to install a rearview monitor to your dashboard that gives you a visual behind your car which you would not be able to see normally.

Many new cars come pre-installed with such systems however there are many options available if you do not have one already. These can be found online or in your local auto parts retail outlet.

Prices range from $50 - $500.

All of the above safety alarms are especially useful for special needs children and can even be used with the elderly.
